Boston Latin School

Boston Latin School is a public exam school founded in 1635. There, the teens of Boston are subjected to six years of Latin and beginning in what would be seventh grade, count their classes in numbers down to one (a seventh grader is in Class Six, i.e. six years before graduation, and is known as a "sixie").

I graduated in 1992 at the bottom of my class. In a class of 324 students my rank was something like 306. I had a hard time doing homework. But I was president of the Drama club, the mascot at football games (where i was supposed to be a wolf, but hated the anonymity so left the mask in my car and gallavanted simply as "furry Brendan"), was voted Class Clown and Most School Spirit, put out five sketch comedy record albums with my brother Dave in a two-man act known as the "Iron Muffins" and I wrote a novel called Caledonia.

So I didn't feel like I had time for Cathargataliam. Although now I regret it, having been through college and grad school. I can't believe that learning was FREE, and I spent my entire time screwing around in the auditorium!

But, what the hell. It's a fantastic school, much better now than it was even when I was there. There's a slightly more new agy arts focus than there was, so kids like me don't have to Rushmore out.

If you'd like to read the novel I wrote when I was 16, you can download the PDF here, but I don't recommend it.
